Winter Storage Prep!Well it’s close
to that time of year again when we have to start thinking about putting the bikes up for the winter. As always we’d
like to offer a few tips for storage so next spring its quick and easy to get rolling again!
Give it a
nice wash. Keeping the bike clean will prevent grease, oils and damaging materials from ruining paints and finishes. Plus
when you take a minute to admire it while there’s snow on the ground it looks good! :o)
TIRES!
If you have a center stand or bike stands it would be a good idea to keep the bike up on them in storage, if not park the
bike on wood. This will help prevent the tires from contact with cold concrete and provide protection from cracking and weather
checking.
OIL!
Depending
on the last service, it is wise to change any old oil before storage. This will allow you to drain corrosive materials from
sitting in the bike for longer periods of time. If your oil is fairly new then its ok for storage, if you’re questioning
it I would advise doing a new oil change!
DRIVE!
Make sure
you lube your chain or drive shaft to prevent rusting over the winter months!
BATTERY!
There
are a few things you can do to preserve and extend your battery life. The ideal suggestion would be to remove the battery
and store indoors connected to a battery tender. If you keep the battery in the bike be sure to connect a tender on the battery!
FUEL!!!
As we all
know ethanol has been a problem all year round! Now the fuel is going to sit if not drained before the winter. Be sure to
have a full tank, this will prevent condensation from building up inside the tank. Use a stabilizer that is good for ethanol
treatment as well. We strongly suggest using StarTron. This helps prevent and cure ethanol issues in the gas, as well as doubles
over as a stabilizer.
And you’re ready for winter!
